Planning permission for the redevelopment of St Georges dates to the early 1990s when the original plan was to convert the church to an arts centre. In the summer of 1998, the church was sold to a private restorer with Outline Planning Permission to convert the building into dwellings, then in February 2005, permission was granted for conversion into eight flats with a further six flats in a new extension to the rear.
St Georges lay empty until 2012 when the conversion to flats began, with an estimated completion date of 2014/15. This work was never completed, and the church then lay untouched for years. It was sold in December 2021 and a full renovation was undertaken and completed in October 2024 with the launch of Arran Shores.
